Zagreb: The capital of Croatia   Leave a comment

Zagreb is probably a typical Eastern European city — very beautiful architecture, but still recovering from years of neglect under Communist rule. The city has some wonderful parks and landmarks including a beautiful Cathedral. We were most surprised by the beauty of the city’s Mirogoj Cemetery, in which many notable Croatians are buried. While at the cemetery, we got caught in a downpour with thunder and lightning. Phil’s Boy Scout training convinced him we should stand under any one of the thousand tallest trees you could possibly imagine. In the end, completely soaked, we continued walking through the enormous site, taking more pictures and were fortunate to eventually find a cab ride back to the hotel.
